Antimycotics

Antimycotic definition and use in microbiology.
Antimycotics are compounds that inhibit the growth of, or kill fungi (yeasts and molds). In microbiology, antimycotics can be used in selective media formulations to inhibit the growth of fungi in environmental or food samples to facilitate the isolation of bacterial pathogens. Antimycotics can also be used in susceptibility tests to determine how effective a given antimycotic is against a fungal pathogen or to trace antimycotic resistance patterns. In selective media formulations, amphotericin B and cycloheximide are the most frequently used antimycotics.
