PV3 is a short, hybrid antimicrobial peptide designed by researchers to combat MDR Pseudomonas aeruginosa. It is a hybrid of peptides found in the venom of the tropical snake Bothrops asper and the venom of the Greater Banded Hornet, the Vespa tropica. PV3 showed more potent bactericidal activity than ceftazidime, and was able to reduce biofilm mass and viability. The cytotoxicity was very low in vitro showing the promising beginnings of a favorable safety profile.
