    Gageostatin A

    $60,865.74

Gageostatin A is an antimicrobial peptide (AMP) isolated from a marine strain of Bacillus subtilis. Gageostatin A is a linear lipopeptide composed of 7 peptides, and has shown initial bioactivity against pathogenic fungi, Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, and cancer cell lines.  Lipopeptides are nonribosomal oligopeptides made by large multienzyme complex and have a cyclic structure including β-amino or β-hydroyxl fatty acid that is integrated into the peptide moiety.

    Molecular Formula C52H93N7O14
Mechanism of Action Lipopeptides may disrupt the cell membrane, thus affecting the transmembrane electric potential.

    Cancer Applications

Gageostatin A displayed cytotoxicity against 6 human cancer cell lines with GI50 values of 4.6-19.6 ug/ml.  Superior antifungal and cytotoxicity was observed if Gageostatin A was mixed with Gageostatin B (Tareq et al, 2014).
