    Mechanism of Action

    Gibberellins are highly expressed in seed embryos before a plant can use photosynthesis to acquire energy. During this stage, starch serves as a primary energy source and is subsequently degraded by gibberellin induced activity.

    Plant Biology Applications

    The plant hormone gibberellin is used for its stimulating effect on cell division and cell elongation, seed germination and flowering in long day plants (Raven et al., 1999).Yancheva and co-workers (2004) used 0.05 mg/l GA3 to promote tissue culture growth. In addition to tissue culture applications, gibberellic acid is used in strawberry to control growth and flowering for out of season cropping (Paroussi et al., 2002).
