DNA can be introduced to plants by Agrobacterium-mediated transformation or other methods where a gene of interest contained on a plasmid is transferred from Agrobacterium cells and integrated into plant tissues. Plant tissues containing a plasmid that also contains a antibiotic resistance gene can be grown in the presence of a selection antibiotic to isolate successfully transformed plant tissues.
