Cell Culture

Cell culture applications and products by TOKU-E.

Cell culture is a term that most commonly refers to the process of growing eukayrotic cells in a suitable environment outside of the animal tissue (or plant) in which they were isolated. Two common terms, primary culture and cell lines, are frequently used to classify mammalian cells into two different stages or phases of growth. Primary culture refers to a culture which contains cells that have been taken directly from a specimen to an artificial growth environment. Primary cells become cell lines after they have been subcultured or passaged to a new environment containing a new and fresh growth medium. Cultured cells can be manipulated by introducing foreign DNA into the cells to express and synthesize certain proteins using a technique known as transfection or transduction (virus mediated). Despite the name, cell culture does not typically refer to microbiology cell culture which includes culturing various microbes such as fungi, bacteria, and viruses.

TOKU-E provides a wide range of cell culture products which include selection antibiotics, antimycotics, and Mycoplasma detection and elimination products which can be used in transfection applications and to control cell culture contamination. TOKU-E cell culture products are suitable for use in several cell culture types including mammalian cell culture, insect cell culture, and stem cell culture.
