Description

4-epianhydrotetracycline HCl (tetracycline impurity D) is a degredation compound of the polyketide antibiotic, tetracycline. 4-epianhydrotetracycline is thought to form in samples of improperly stored tetracycline especially in warm, moist, and acidic environments. Studies using rats have shown 4-epianhydrotetracycline to cause renal toxicity and a decrease in mitochondrial respiration.
