G418 (also known as Geneticin) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic that is produced by Micromonospora rhodorangea. It is main used as gene transfer and selection reagent in molecular biology. Resistant to G418 is conferred by the neo gene from Tn5 encoding an aminoglycoside 3‘-phosphotransferase, APH 3‘ II.  As a primary manufacturer of G418, TOKU-E produces various G418 purities, the highest being G418-EvoPure®. TOKU-E's high purity EvoPure® line of antibiotics is virtually free from any and all impurities.

Application field:molecular biology
Mechanism:G418 blocks polypeptide synthesis in eukaryotic cells by binding irreversibly to 80S ribosomes and therefore disrupting their proofreading capability.
