Blasticidin S is an nucleotide derivative antibiotic that is produced by Streptomyces griseochromogenes. It is mainly used as gene transfer and selection reagent in molecular biology. Comparing with other gene selection antibiotics, it has potent and fast mode of action, and killing sensitive cells much quicker.  A stable transfection can be completed within one week.
